Sweet Orange
Botanical name: Citrus sinensis.
The sweet orange fruit tree is an ancient cultivar born of a pomelo & a mandarin, originating in the Malay Archipelago, a group of islands between mainland Indochina and Australia.
Since being introduced to the Americas & the Mediterranean Basin of Europe, they have flourished for centuries.
The name “Orange” though it obviously describes it's color, actually relates to its fragrance! Whereby ancient Sanskrit names for citrus, share the same root word "Narantum" which means pleasant fragrance! The word migrated further to the Arabic "Naranja" & the Spanish "Naranja". Later still, the English dropped the “n” and began using the word “orange” to describe the colour instead.
And who isn't uplifted by the cheerful colour & delectable fragrance of a fresh sweet orange?!

Ylang Ylang
Botanical name: Cananga odorata
Cananga Odorata’s familiar name Ylang ylang is from the Tagalog word “ilang” which means wilderness.
The wildernesses it refers to are the Canaga trees native home, the tropical wild forests of the Philippines, Indonesia, Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, Java, Sumatra & the Comoro Islands where it both still grows wild & is now also cultivated.
It Is also organically cultivated in Madagascar. This is where our Ylang ylang essential oil is harvested & distilled using traditional methods of steam distillation to obtain the exquisite aroma from the delicate, hand-picked flowers.
The unforgettable deep, sweet scent given by the flowers is prized by natural perfumers and has become a worldwide favourite for its ability to alter the mood: easing symptoms & effects of anxiety, stress, nervous tension & depression, enhancing relaxation & aiding sleep with its almost sedative aroma, with the added quality of being an aphrodisiac!
Ylang-ylang can be found in some of our perfume formulas, to which it brings a clean, exotic floral note. Bergamot
Botanical name: Citrus bergamia
Believed to be an offspring of the lemon & the grapefruit tree, bergamot orange trees grow in Mauritius, Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa, the Antalya Province of Turkey & Southern France, however, most of the bergamot trees in the world grow along a small coastal stretch of the Ionian Sea in the province of Reggio di Calabria, Italy. This is where we source our beautiful bergamot essential oil, where it is cold-press extracted from the fresh rind of organically grown bergamot oranges.

Balsam Of Peru
The Myroxylon Tree is an evergreen tree growing in the tropical forests of the Northern region of South America & in Central America - primarily El Salvador, where our Myroxylon balsamum is harvested by locals who still know the traditional ways of collecting this adored balsamic fragrant resin.From here the resinous used to be transported to Peru to trade, where it picked up its now familiar name Balsam of Peru.
Dating back to the ancient Maya culture, this tree resin oil was appreciated as incense with the ability to create a calm, tranquil ambience. The smooth, non-congesting aroma has a relaxing effect on both the physical, mental & emotional aspects of self, soothing nervous tension & wayward emotions with its comforting vanilla & cinnamon aroma nuances.

Clary Sage
Botanical name: Salvia sclarea
This purple flowering herb is native to the Northern Mediterranean Basin in Europe: France where some of our Clary Sage is grown & gathered.
Moldova is another place we source our Clary Sage from, where it is organically grown & steam distilled.
It also grows naturally in some areas in North Africa & Central Asia & it is now also cultivated in Russia.
Loved for thousands of years by perfumers, Clary Sages' scent profile is earthy-floral with a sweet, herbaceous musk nuance.

Cinnamon ~ Cinnamomum verum
Cinnamon bark oil is distilled from the bark of the sub-tropical evergreen trees.
The source of the word cinnamon is from the Malay word, “kayumanis”, meaning sweet wood. The Hebrew equivalent was “qinnämön” from which ‘cinnamon’ developed, Highly revered for its fragrance cinnamon was used in incense & ointments. It was worth 50 times the price of silver & knowing its value as sacred plant, traders imbued its ‘story’ with tales of stealing it from the nests of mythical birds.
The love & trade of Cinnamon expanded throughout the Middle Ages & gave rise to ‘The Cinnamon Route’ a journey across land and sea that began in Asia where it originates - across Africa & The Mediterranean - where the Venetians kept the source of this rare and precious ingredient secret & sold it to other European countries.
Now it is grown in many Sub Tropical places across the world. Our cinnamon bark oil is from the island of Madagascar off the coast of South Africa & is Certified Organic by the Soil Association.

Rose Otto ~ Rosa Damascena
The enjoyment of the fragrance of rose is recorded as far back as 5000 years. In India, the Attar of roses has been distilled in The city of “Kannauj” the Attar capital in India, for at least 400 years, where it is said Nur Jahan the wife of Jahangir the Emperor of the time bathed in a water pool packed with rose petals.
The journey of the word Otto begins with the Arabic word for ‘Itr’, which means ‘perfume’ - developing into the Persian word’ itir’ & then ‘ittar’ & 'attar'. Although the words are connected, the meanings differ today - Attar is traditionally made by distilling petals, woods, resins and even clay pots in Sandalwood oil, whereas Otto specifically signifies steam-distilled rose petals.. of which it takes 2000 to create just one drop of the precious essential rose oil. To obtain the entire spectrum of aroma from the petals they are soaked in water & distilled twice into Florentine flasks, then both distillations are skillfully blended by expert botanical alchemists with exceptional olfactory abilities to create the final essential oil which often presents as a wax or a ‘concrete’ in perfumers terms.
